George May 5 might be an important holiday Cinco de Mayo but May 6 is another important holiday: today is George Clooneys 50th birthday! The gorgeous actor, born in 1961, is reportedly celebrating a low-key birthday this year with his longtime girlfriend, Italian stunner Elisabetta Canalis.

However, Clooney has packed a lot of living into his 50 years. What are some of his most notable moments?

May 6, 1961

George Timothy Clooney is born to beauty queen Nina Bruce and news anchor Nick Clooney in Lexington, Kentucky.


Clooney attends college at both Northern Kentucky University and briefly at the University of Cincinnati. He majors in History and Political Science, but does graduate.


Clooney gets his first mainstream acting role as a handyman on the popular comedy The Facts of Life.


Clooney buys a potbellied pig for his then-girlfriend, Kelly Preston. He ends up keeping the pig, named Max, when the couple breaks up. The pig lived until December 2006.


Clooney finds modest success as Roseanne Barrs overbearing boss Booker Brooks on the popular comedy Roseanne.


Clooney marries Talia Balsam, but the couple divorces in 1993. He says hell never marry again.


Clooney is cast as Dr. Doug Ross on the smash NBC drama ER. He starts acting in films like From Dusk Til Dawn and Batman and Robin.


Clooney leaves ER.


Clooney teams up with Brad Pitt, Matt Damon and a cast of other stars to remake Oceans 11.


The actor wins an Academy Award for Best Actor for Syriana. Hes also nominated for Best Director and Best Screenplay for Goodbye, and Good Luck. Hes the first actor to be nominated in the same year for two different films.


Gets involved in international issues, especially the crisis in Darfur. He calls on European leaders to get involved.

Clooney also makes his first trip to the poverty-stricken country that same year.


Clooney and actor Don Cheadle are honored with the Summit Peace Award by the Nobel Peace Prize Laureates in Rome, Italy.
